Low Latency Audio and Video Telemusic
Real time, online collaboration over the commercial internet
New course this fall, INT573T: Low Latency Telemusic
Prof. Ian Howell & Prof. Kayla Gautereaux
This seven-week course seeks to teach the skills needed to understand low latency, network audio and video transmission over the commercial Internet. Topics covered include the basics of digital audio and network transmission protocols, and the history of music technology at the intersection of transmission and loud-speaker mediation. Students will build a Raspberry Pi micro-computer that runs multiple low latency apps, will learn best practices for optimizing distributed music connections, and will gain command of advanced workflows such as online broadcasting and distributed multi-track recording. The mid-term and final projects will be creatively oriented, implementing the skills acquired in this course.
